3D Arts Progress Photos

These are some progress photos of the 3D Arts Complex.  The building will eventually be home to departments for Jewelry, Ceramics, Metal Sculpture, and Wood working.  We gutted the whole building but only finished out the Jewelry department.

This is a picture of our jobsite office.  The guys built this inside the building and designed it so that it could be moved around.  It has six giant casters underneath it so that one guy (easier with two) can push it.  We poured a topping slab on the entire building slab, so building an office that could be moved was a great idea.  It's sitting right in the middle of where the Ceramics addition will eventually be.

This is the entrance after a few months of construction.  The next picture is older than this one.  If you compare the two you will really see differences.  For starters, the storefront windows are new, the ramp is new, the concrete wall is new, and the hardscape that's being formed out is new.

I like this picture because of the dirt ramp.  We had to build this ramp so the concrete trucks and other big pieces of equipment could get in and out of the building.

3D Arts Jewelry Facility

I'm going to give this blogging thing a try.  I thought it might be fun to have an avenue to show off some of the different projects I've been working on.

To start, this is a brochure that Texas Tech has been using as a promo for incoming students.  I just finished up this remodel project with Western Builders.  The front entry shown here was completely redone--it used to be just a couple of concrete steps up to the door, and the original building didn't have the side courtyard, ramp, or any landscaping.

The room shown is really the highlight of the project.  It's the soldering room where the students actually make their jewelry.  There are 14 stations plus an instructor's station, each of which is equipped with a soldering torch, a welding torch, and an exhaust vent.  The silver stacks on the front of the building are the exhaust stacks for this room.

I had no idea that Tech's jewelry department was internationally known.  Apparently their students are the most sought after jewelry artists in the world... weird that they're in Lubbock.  Well, good for them even though their Raiders.  They now have the most state of the art jewelry facility in the nation according to Metalsmithing Magazine, the premier jewelry trade magazine of America.
